Biathlon World Championships 2024
After eleven years, the Biathlon World Championships have returned to the Nové město na Moravě. It was raced from 7.th to 18.th February and the attendance broke records. During the nine days of racing, the total attendance at the venue reached 210,681 fans. The daily attendance record was 30,000 people. The total attendance at the 2024 Biathlon World Championships surpassed the previous World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě in winter 2013 by almost 10,000 fans.
Biathlon races are a routine for us
We have provided a total of 3 large tents for the race organisers as facilities for visitors, volunteers and the official merchandise shop. Over 6 dozen 5x5 meter Pagoda tents and 20 scissor tents served as gates to the venue, backstage for stallholders or race organizers. Almost 450 m2 of LED walls were placed throughout the venue at each stand. We laid almost a square kilometre of carpet in the tents and built 2 hundred metres of Octanorm partitions. We wired over 30 televisions, 2 hundred lights and outfitted the tents with dozens of pieces of furniture.
Why the heat didnt cancelled the race
The biggest challenge was hosting the championships despite the inclement warm weather. Drivers, groomers, stadium workers and rollerbladers kept going through the night hours, loading and rolling new snow from the hopper onto the race course each night. These people are the real heroes of this year's Biathlon World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě. Respect goes to their tireless fight against the high temperatures. And also to the foresight of the organizers who built their own snow reservoir for the races. Without it, it would have been impossible to organize the races. At the time of the Biathlon World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě, there was no snow anywhere in Europe below 1,500 metres above sea level.
An unrivalled cauldron of fans
The people were incredible. "For a Czech biathlon team that went to the World Championships badly and did not do well, what the fans showed here this year was a hell of an atmosphere! The spectator atmosphere here today is clearly the best of all stadiums in the world," said Jiri Hamza, the head of the Czech Biathlon Federation.
